The Pelican Isle Yacht Club Women’s Club Fundraiser presents Proceeds Check to NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) of Collier County

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Collier County (NAMI) was the proud recipient of funds raised at the Pelican Isle Women’s Club 2014 Desserts and Delights, held on March 11, 2014.  These funds will help NAMI provide financial assistance free of charge to individuals who need help in getting psychiatric evaluations, emergency assistance, prescriptions, shelter and food.

Kids With ADHD May Also Suffer Family Troubles

TUESDAY, May 6, 2014 (HealthDay News) — New research indicates that children with attention-deficit          hyperactivity disorder may be more likely to be part of families that are affected by poverty, divorce, neighborhood violence and substance abuse.

“Our findings suggest that children with ADHD experience significantly higher rates of trauma than those without ADHD,” study author Dr. Nicole Brown said in a news release from the American Academy of Pediatrics. “Providers may focus on ADHD as the primary diagnosis and overlook the possible presence of a trauma history, which may impact treatment.”

Youth Mental Health First Aid on Saturday, August 23rd from 8am – 4pm

NAMI will offer Youth Mental Health First Aid on Saturday, August 23rd from 8am – 4pm. The class will be held at the NAMI conference room at 6216 Trail Blvd, Naples, 34108.  The nonrefundable fee for the class is $25 to cover materials and must be paid in advance.  Each participant will receive a Youth Mental Health First Aid manual and certificate that is valid for 3 years.  For information about Mental Health First Aid, please see the attached flier or call for more information.
