Today is Housing Week of Action Congress-Call-In Day!

Tell Congress to Fund Solutions to Homelessness and Housing Poverty

Today, June 5, is the last day of the Our Homes, Our Voices National Housing Week of Action, and it is also Week of Action Congress-Call-in-Day! Call your members of Congress and tell them to fund solutions to homelessness and housing poverty.  Find your member of Congress and their contact information here.

Advocates are finishing the National Housing Week of Action strong! Yesterday, June 4, members of Congress, advocates, and organizations joined as one compelling voice on Twitter during the National Tweetstorm to elevate the need for affordable homes in America. Here are a few highlights:

Yesterday also brought another day full of local Week of Action events around the country. Day 6 events included:

  • Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness and its partners hosted four screenings of the film Owned: A Tale of Two Americas in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Traverse City. The movie details the history of racism in American housing policy. Following the film in Detroit, the Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD) Policy Team and HAND facilitated a community-driven discussion.

  • Heartland 2050 and Metro Area Planning Agency hosted a workshop for both professionals and citizens in the Omaha-Council Bluffs region. The workshop focused on the impact of housing costs on low-income families in the metropolitan area and how to tell more compelling stories about participants’ unique and shared reasons to take action to improve housing. “No one can take away your story. It is yours, and it is powerful,” was the workshop theme.
